Isaac's Friends

Bringing love & laughter to children when they need it the most

Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon - 2009

This past Saturday we hosted our first annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. Sponsored by ITT Technical Institute of Greenville, we set aside this time to honor the incredible hospital volunteers that give their time to serve the sick and injured children in our local hospitals. Enough can't be said for their compassion and devotion to these children and their families. This group of volunteers have all been serving for 6 months already! The initial 5 volunteers have worked with around 300 children at Greenville Memorial Children's Hospital since Isaac's Friends began! For the month of September they helped 70 children! We would like to thank Alice, Bernhard, Heather, Sandi and Summer for their extraordinary commitment and care.

Part of the celebration Saturday included the introduction of two awards - the Volunteer of the Year and the Junior Achievement award. Both awards will be given each year to recognize individuals who have gone above and beyond in their service to the organization, the children and their families and to their communities. The Volunteer of the Year is someone who displays compassion and care for others in need, gives their time and resources to help people in need, and encourages others to give of their time and resources to help. This year's winner is Summer Nepper! Summer was the first hospital volunteer to sign up for Isaac's Friends, she has helped with every fund raiser, lives a lifestyle of giving to others, has helped with hospital functions for children, has supported children in hospitals and their families across the country and many, many more things during our first year. Congratulations and thank you! The Junior Achievement Award is given to someone under 18 who displays compassion for others, is willing to use their talents, abilities and time to help others in need, is generous, polite, respectful and trustworthy, and sets a good example for their peers. This year's winner is Sydney Hughes! Sydney, who just turned 12, has been instrumental in the success of Isaac's Friends by doing things like helping to design the logo, recording radio and video commercials, selling raffle tickets, promoting charity at her school, helping to set up at functions, raising teddy bears to send to orphans, giving her time and money to help others, and many, many more things. Congratulations and thank you!

We were also happy to welcome three new volunteers to the team and look forward to working with them to reach many more children in the hospitals. Thank you again to Brian and Jennifer at ITT Tech for sponsoring our event by providing the facilities and lunch for our volunteers. This is the type of team work that is making a difference in our community and our world.

Thank you to all our volunteers - you are true heroes!

Students serve to help families of sick children

Students from the Legacy Academy in Greenville, SC joined Isaac's Friends for a special service project. These students worked for 2 hours to clean up the parking lot at the Ronald McDonald House. What a terrific group of young women and men! Thank you to Holly and the staff of Legacy Academy and to the students for working so hard and doing such a great job!
